Interpreting Self-Potential Signal during Reactive Transport: Application to Calcite Dissolution and Precipitation

چکیده
Geochemistry and reactive transport play a critical role in many fields. In particular, calcite dissolution precipitation are chemical processes occurring ubiquitously the Earth’s subsurface. Therefore, understanding quantifying them necessary for various applications (e.g., water resources, reservoirs, geo-engineering). These fundamental geochemical can be monitored using self-potential (SP) method, which is sensitive to pore space changes, mineralization, mineral–solution interactions. However, there lack of physics-based models linking SP response. Thus, this study, we develop first geochemical–geophysical fully coupled multi-species numerical workflow predict electrochemical This based on simulation computation new expression electro-diffusive coupling multiple ionic species. Direct nanoscale observations of the coupled dissolution of calcite and dolomite and the precipitation of gypsum
In-situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments were performed to study the overall process of dissolution of common carbonate minerals (calcite and dolomite) and precipitation of gypsum in Na2SO4 and CaSO4 solutions with pH values ranging from 2 to 6 at room temperature (23 ± 1 °C). The dissolution of the carbonate minerals took place at the (104) cleavage surfaces in sulfate-rich solutions ...
متن کاملAutomaton Model of Precipitation / Dissolution Coupled with Solute Transport
Precipitation/dissolution reactions coupled with solute transport are modelled as a cellular automaton in which solute molecules perform a random walk on a regular lattice and react according to a local probabilistic rule. Stationary solid particles dissolve with a certain probability and, provided solid is already present or the solution is saturated, solute particles have a probability to pre...
متن کاملPore-scale modeling of multiphase reactive transport with phase transitions and dissolution-precipitation processes in closed systems.
A pore-scale model based on the lattice Boltzmann (LB) method is developed for multiphase reactive transport with phase transitions and dissolution-precipitation processes. The model combines the single-component multiphase Shan-Chen LB model [X. Shan and H. Chen, Phys. Rev. E 47, 1815 (1993)], the mass transport LB model [S. P. Sullivan et al., Chem. Eng. Sci. 60, 3405 (2005)], and the dissolu...
متن کاملDiffusion Controlled Dissolution and Precipitation*
Dissolution and precipitation reactions that occur in biological systems and in non-stirred in vitro systems generally are diffusion-controlled. Subsurface demineralization of tooth enamel in dental caries, which has been the subject of considerable interest, is an example of such processes. In the caries process ions from solubilized tooth mineral, i. e., Ca, P04, and OH, need to be transporte...
متن کاملAn Overview of the Factors Affecting Microbial-Induced Calcite Precipitation and its Potential Application in Soil Improvement
Microbial-induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is a relatively green and sustainable soil improvement technique. It utilizes biochemical process that exists naturally in soil to improve engineering properties of soils. The calcite precipitation process is uplifted by the mean of injecting higher concentration of urease positive bacteria and reagents into the soil. The main objective of this pap...
